US Armed Forces Veteran's Advocacy
We at The Johnny O Foundation take the legal rights, benefits to our veterans, and their service to our country very serious. Our foundations leader and namesake "Johnny O" was a World War II Navy veteran. Our CEO's son is an Officer and Ranger in the US Army serving in Afghanistan. Our Chief Fund Raising Executive's father was a decorated Korean War Veteran in the Marines and his uncle was a Navy pilot officer shot down and killed in the Philippines. So like we stated, we take VA benefits and the cause for helping all US Armed Forces Veterans very seriously.
Just recently, we incorporated new objectives to increase awareness and raise research dollars in the Johnny O Foundation towards TBI (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy), a neurological disorder found to adversely effect many of our US Armed Forces personnel. In 2010, it was estimated in a study by the Boston University School of Medicine, that over 220,000 of the 2.3 million American military personnel that have served in Iraq and Afghanistan may have TBI as a result of a traumatic brain injury while on active duty. We are very proud to be the FIRST Alzheimer's and dementia foundation in the US to focus on TBI with our military veterans and as such, are truly recognized as "Pioneers in TBI Awareness".
We are partnering continuously and collaborating with experts in the field of Veterans Benefits and TBI. We recently partnered with VeteranAid .org to help support our veterans and military personnel.
